First work day at the Historic Bok Sanctuary Project
Saturday, September 22, 2007
Also within Green Horizon’s Bok Sanctuary Project are 82 acres of citrus groves held under conservation easements.
Ridge Rangers Volunteers came from as far away as St. Petersburg, Florida to help with the restoration of 128 acres in the south viewshed of Bok Sanctuary. Katrina Holten, Land Steward for Historic Bok Sanctuary, organized the first work day for land that was recently acquired with a grant from Florida Communities Trust. Saturday’s volunteers began the clean up on 50 acres behind the Lake Wales High School, which is in the HBS south viewshed.
GHLT entered into a management contract with HBS for the management and restoration of 138 acres of fee simple (owned) fallow lands held by Green Horizon. The 138 acres owned and held by GHLT will be restored over a period of time back to its natural state. Future plans for this section of the project include a public picnic park and areas for outdoor classrooms.
