"The air is precious to the red man,
for all things share the same breath -
the beast, the tree, the man, they all share
the same breath. Teach your children that the
ground beneath their feet is the ashes of your
grandfathers. So that they will respect the land, tell your children that the earth is rich with the lives of our kin." ~ Chief Seattle -1854

GREEN HORIZON HAS DONE IT AGAIN!
20 Acres Preserved on
Lake Marion Creek
On the bank of Lake Marion Creek stands a large sand hill that was used from ancient times as a camp site for Native American tribes, including the more recent Seminole Nation. Chief Chipco and Chief Tallahassee would have paddled their canoes past the cypress, pine and oak trees, looking for game or fishing.
Green Horizon, working on behalf of the Polk County Environmental Land Program, has recently acquired 20 Acres on Lake Marion Creek near Haines City. The L shaped site adjoins and provides excellent access to the 217 acre Sherwood Stokes Preserve, which was also aquired by Green Horizon for Polk County.
For thousands of years, Native Americans raised their families, found shelter, food and spiritual renewal among the pristine upland scrub, pine flatwoods, and hardwood wetland habitats. Now and forever, these same habitats will provide a quite place for future generations to seek a reconnection with nature.
